Hair Care Buying Advice
The right hair care depends on your hair type, your scalp and how you style your hair. This page is buying advice. We add specific product picks only after reading the maker's own page.
Start with what you need
- Dry hair. Look for conditioners and products that describe moisturising or smoothing. Check how heavy the product feels in reviews.
- Oily scalp. A lighter shampoo used regularly is a common choice. Heavy conditioners are usually applied to the lengths, not the scalp.
- Dandruff. Anti-dandruff shampoos list their active ingredient on the label. If flaking is severe or keeps returning, see a doctor or dermatologist.
- Hair fall. Some shedding is normal. A shampoo can help clean and condition the hair, but it cannot treat hair loss. For significant hair loss, see a doctor.
- Damaged hair. Repair-style conditioners and masks, and less heat styling, are common first steps.
- Curly hair. Many curly hair routines focus on moisture and gentle handling. Check whether a product is made for curls.
Buying guide
- Know your hair and scalp. Decide whether your main need is dryness, oiliness, flaking, damage or curls before comparing products.
- Check the label. Look at the ingredients and whether the product is made for your hair type.
- Do not expect miracles. Hair products change how hair looks and feels. They do not treat medical conditions.

Common questions
How often should I wash my hair?
It depends on your scalp and hair type. Many people wash a few times a week. Wash more often if your scalp gets oily or you sweat a lot.
Can a shampoo stop hair fall?
A shampoo cannot treat hair loss. If you are losing a lot of hair, please speak to a doctor.
