Mixer Grinders Buying Advice

A good mixer grinder fits the way you cook, from chutneys to dosa batter. This page is buying advice. We add specific product picks only after reading the maker's own page.

Start with what you need

  • Daily wet grinding. Look at motor power, jar quality and how long the maker says the motor can run continuously.
  • Dry grinding for masalas. Check that a dry jar is included and that the blades are made for dry spices.
  • Small families. A compact model with fewer jars is easier to store.
  • Larger families. More jars and a stronger motor handle bigger batches.

Buying guide

  • Motor power. Motor power is listed in watts. A stronger motor copes better with heavy loads, but check the duty cycle.
  • Jars and lids. Look at the material of the jars and how well the lids seal. Leaking lids are a common complaint.
  • Overload protection. An overload cut-off helps protect the motor. Check that the listing mentions it.

Common questions

How many jars do I need?

A wet jar and a dry jar cover most needs. More jars suit people who grind often or in different sizes.

Can I run a mixer grinder for a long time?

Follow the maker's limits on running time and let the motor rest between batches.
